The Crystal Space Contest FTP Site is Open. So if your contest entry is ready
you can put it at the following ftp site:
address: 62.188.48.183
login: crystal-compo-entrants
pass: letmeenter
PLEASE do not forget the contest guidelines on how to submit entries!
I will repeat them below. Also don't forget that it is legal to send in
unfinished entries. An unfinished good entry is still better than a finished
bad entry :-)
Contest rules (IMPORTANT TO READ):
* The deadline for the contest is August the first of 2002. Entries contributed
after the deadline will still be put on the contest entry page but they will
not be considered for any prize money.
* Entries should be delivered to us as a ZIP or TAR.GZ archive. Other formats
are NOT allowed! One entry should be one archive. Don't separate your
entry into different archives or files. We want to see exactly ONE file
from you (except if you contribute different entries)!
* The entry archive name should contain your name.
For example: bill_gates.zip or linus_torvalds.tar.gz.
* It is allowed to submit updates to your entries (i.e. bug fixes
and things like that) provided the submission happens BEFORE the
deadline. If the submission happens after the deadline we will update
the entry on the contest page but the original (buggy) entry will be
used for deciding on any prize money. If you submit an update to a
previously uploaded entry you should add a number after the
filename. Example bill_gates_2.zip.
* The entry archive should contain a readme.txt file with the
following information:
o Your full name.
o One or more emails where we can contact you.
o Your real address.
o A short description of your entry (i.e. what does it do? what
is the purpose?).
o Information on how to compile, install, and run your entry
and things we need to know about it.
o Version of CS that is required.
* Entry archives should be put at the ftp site with address 62.188.48.183
The username is crystal-compo-entrants and the password is
letmeenter. This ftp site will be opened approximatelly ten days
before the end of the deadline. Note that you will only be able to upload
to this directory. There is no way to download, delete, or overwrite files.
If you want to replace an entry that you uploaded accidently then
you should contact us. If you cannot upload your entry to that ftp
address for some reason you can mail it to
jorrit.tyberghein@uz.kuleuven.ac.be but only do this if the ftp upload failed!
* The contest is about writing a game, demo, or useful tool for
Crystal Space using the Crystal Space framework.
* It is recommended that the source code of this contest entry is not
more than 5000 lines. Blocks is 4500 lines and csdemo is 3653 lines
so this should be possible :-)
* If the contest entry needs additional data (textures, map file,
sounds, ...) it is recommended that the total amount of data does not exceed 10Megs
(compressed).
* The source code of this contest entry must be released
under an OSI approved Open Source license. You can find
a list at: www.opensource.org
* The following CS versions are legal for creation of this contest entry:
o 0.94r002
o 0.96 (if that gets released before August).
o cvs (or 0.95)
If you use cvs the only requirement is that it works with the cvs
version of CS on July 15 (two weeks before the deadline). So
you have two options here: use cvs and update regularly, or download
a snapshot now and then download again at July 15 to see if your code still works.
* The judges cannot contribute to this contest. This means that the
following people are excluded from this contest: Jorrit Tyberghein,
Eric Sunshine, Norman Kramer, Wouter Wijngaards, and Philip Wyett.
* The judges will be top CS contributors (Jorrit Tyberghein,
Philip Wyett, Eric Sunshine, Wouter Wijngaards, and Norman Kramer).
* Every contest entry will be judged based on code quality
and depending on the type of entry, playability, demo value, or usefulness.
* All entries that will be sent to us will be made available on
the CS website. With full source.
* Including binaries is not required but a nice touch.
* Making sure the contest entry is portable (at least linux and
windows) is a good point in your favor.
* And finally: the prizes are (in USD):
o $500 for first place
o $250 for second place
o $200 for third place
Greetings,
