It stands to reason that if GTK, due to developer scarcity or for whatever other reason, stops being a viable proposition for the development of graphical applications for Linux, people will eventually have to use something else instead. Of course whether that would be Qt or something different altogether, or whether that would be a reason for exultation on anybody's part, is an open question.
