Testing for kernel performance regressions

It is not uncommon for software projects — free or otherwise — to include a set of tests intended to detect regressions before they create problems for users. The kernel lacks such a set of tests. Recently, though, we have seen the publication of some results from tests intended to highlight memory management regressions; they paint an interesting picture of where kernel development is going.
