Another thing I would have liked to see tested is the ease of creating your own packages. I always make a package when I install something from sources, so it can be managed using the standard distro tools. This practice also brings me the added security of never having to execute install scripts as root.

I use Slackware, which makes this a breeze. I have no idea about how hard or easy this is with the other packaging systems and would, as stated above, like to read a comparison.
