I don't think that was his point. His point, I believe, is that Java is a veritable nightmare regarding system administration and interoperability.
It's sort of like a Windows developer posting his project to a Linux group. Cool, but not of much use.
It's a very apt analogy, I think. Unix, Windows, Java--three different development and execution environments with very little commonality and drastically different developer ecosystems.

There are some things about Java that could be improved. However, at the end of the day, Java is a very popular language for big data applications, and there are very good reasons for that.
