You say that like it's a bad thing. Ideology is important to some of us.

Since the outcome is likely to be the same state we have now, probably not. I don't see a way out of it unless the "alternate distribution" idea takes off. A Debian derivative that's officially maintained by the Debian project which meets all of the FSF requirements seems possible.

The problem with this approach is that it needs additional resources. Which would have to then stop whatever they're doing now. So it's a trade off.
