A lot of people clearly want to be sure we're aware of the leap second bug, which causes load spikes on some systems. We'll definitely write something more comprehensive, but, for now:

  • Running date -s "`date`" seems to be an effective workaround.
  • See this note from John Stultz for a preliminary diagnosis of the problem; he also has a fix available for testing.
