Sod the "moral majority". I'm a member of the "don't be horrible to people unless you don't mind the risk of never seeing them again, and driving off observers who see that interaction" majority. I know *I've* been strongly discouraged from ever contributing to the Linux kernel by the high-temperature reception that contributions are all too often met by: I'll do it if necessary, but I'll probably go via someone else to let them face the flames instead of me. And if it's putting off randomly selected white males working for Linux companies it's probably putting off a lot of other people in less fortunate positions.
