There are electronics companies running massive farms (tens of thousands of servers) with CentOS to verify their chip designs. They're still paying EDA companies for licenses, but they aren't paying Red Hat. If, instead of paying several million dollars to Red Hat, they kick in a couple of hundred K to pay for a CentOS developer or two, they save money.
