Software Patents: Spreading through the EuropeSwPatentFree network action

[ProInnova Informative Release]

Over the imminent McCarthy Directive voting in the European Parliament
which could introduce the software patents in europe, and after recent
events showing up a big misunderstanding in the subject, from ProInnova
Working Group we launch a new network action: EuropeSwPatentFree.

The action lies in making the word EuropeSwPatentFree as more ubiquitous as
possible in all the network, always linked to its main URL
http://EuropeSwPatentFree.hispalinux.es , which will redirect the visitors to a
web page filled up with clear and concise internationalized information.

We can achieve this mission easily, just putting the link in our website, or in
our e-mail signature, or in forums messages, or in our weblog... I bet we can
find many other places, and with each one we will be reporting other people
about the current danger.

Those who have web hosting space will be able to download the files of the web
page, translate them if needed to their language, and put them in the WWW.
Through a web form we will be notified of the mirror startup, and this will join
the list mantained by the main node. The latter will redirect the visitors to a
mirror, selected from the list, and hosting the desired language.

So then, there are the following ways to support the action:
        - Link in your email & forums signatures
        - Link in your website
        - Sending the informative note by email
        - Mirroring of the web page
        - Translation of the web page

Day by day we see how the players of this game reveal their faces, and had been
so positive all the backings received from the business sector -certainly the
SMEs sector- as much as universities, and of course the social face of the
network. But we still believe it is necessary to bring the present scenario to
all the computing users sector. And nothing better for this task than the
network itself.

Online action against Software Patents

If you want a more complete protest-page, you may copy mine from http://www.hut.fi/~tajyrink/index.html - I used both the banner of this new campaign and a former example protest page which I now can't find anymore. Please note that if you save the html, it's in Unicode (so select-paste if you need to convert to standard Latin characters or something like that).
