This Cadillac Is Powered by Linux (Wired)

Wired is impressed with the Linux-powered in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system in the most recent Cadillac XTS. "While the XTS’ spate of processors and controllers isn’t running the open source offspring of Linus Torvalds, the game-changing infotainment intender known as the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) is. [...] Buried deep within the dash is a three-core ARM 11 processor, powering two displays: one eight-inch capacitive touch screen — the first non-resistive display to come to a production car — and a second, 12.3-inch fully configurable instrument cluster mounted behind the steering wheel. Two of those cores adapt on the fly to handle voice commands powered by the same Nuance technology used by many automakers, along with Apple’s personal assistant, Siri. But with CUE, everything is processed on board."

Great. Lovely shiny distractions for drivers so they can keep their eyes off the road.

What has replaced linuxfordevices as the goto place for news on embedded linux apps and hardware?

As much as I love LWN it just doesn't have the comprehensiveness & broad coverage that linuxdevices had on (pretty much) every embedded linux system/development platform coming out.

And of course, if they did most people here would get bored so that's probably a good thing.

I suppose embedded.com/eetimes is the closest thing if you're willing to do a bit of mental filtering.

Seems to be a accurate assessment of embedded Linux nowadays.

It's this, I know for a fact: https://lwn.net/Articles/465316/

You read about the new CUE first in LWN! Congrats to GM, which has not always been known for its technological prowess, for shipping such advanced software in such a long lead-time device. After all, lxc and cgroups are not that old. MontaVista and GM really brought this solution to market quickly.

I believe you're right. Odd that there's no mention of MontaVista is the Wired article, as I know they worked very hard on this project.
