I don't understand the reason for the data. They admit they will give it to academics and companies, but where would it be more useful ? In the hands of the common people who could then check each app before they install it.
Keeping the information closed has only one effect : helping those particular malwares to continue to spread.

That and sometimes people get a charge from feeling like they belong to some sort of elite priesthood.
