I wrote an alternate version of MTPFS. I created it especially for Android devices (I tested with a Xoom and a Galaxy Nexus), and it should be faster and more stable than the original. It's available from https://github.com/hanwen/go-mtpfs, and a 32 bit binary is on http://hanwen.home.xs4all.nl/public/software/go-mtpfs. It requires a fairly recent libmtp version, though.

Yep go-mtpfs is the best you can get for an Android today. I think if the majority of devices start to work like the Androids, the concept should be incorpotated into GNOME and KDE.
