I have to agree that suse's config tools are very good.
But the stability and correctness of the code leave something to be desired.

A friend of mine uses SuSE 8.2 on her laptop and experienced incomprehensible
crashes after an average of 10 minutes use.

And I found a bug in the prerelease GCC that's shipped with SuSE 8.2. It's not in
the final gcc 3.3, fortunately, but it did force me to upgrade since the generated
code was affecting my binaries. (numbers were rounded when they shouldn't be).

With the first problem, SuSE was helpful in trying to find the cause, but the problem
was not resolved. In the second case, no action was taken and I switched to
Knoppix/Debian.

Nevertheless, I think that SuSE is one of the best polished distros.
