Accounting systems: a rant and a quest

Our small business was using QB0809 (Australia), our only MS enviro product, until last week when 2 different accountants complained they had put all their corrections into the accountant copy we sent them, then noticed they were unable to either save these or generate a return accountant file to send back. One of them discovered in discussion with Reckon that this was a well-known (to Reckon) bug in that version of QB and couldn't be fixed, except by upgrade...

To their credit, QB are sending us the next year's version, but 2 accounting firms have wasted a lot trying to debug this, with its pass-on effect.

I'm a _very_ enthusiastic supporter of the hunt for a good open-source alternative.
