Quasar Accounting - the current version is not open source but the previous version (1.4.7) is. We've been using it for about 5 years now, with Postgresql as the back-end (you can use various back-ends).
(I'm not associated with them).
I have the 1.4.7. code if you cannot find it on their site.

I have searched their website and can not find this mailing list archive you speak of. I could find an ancient archive of their now old and defunct BBS.

Why would you need a lot of current entries in a mature accounting system with good documentation?
