I understand your quest for Opensource, We took a different direction and selected a cloud based solution. This is working well for us.
Its cheap, doesn't rely on windows, is accessible from anywhere (you are not tied to a particular PC).

But are you tied to a particular file format? Can you export your data and back it up offline or import into another program?

Even before that, what if the cloud provider goes bust, has some major technical issue, or one of a billion other problems a day before you have to file paperwork with the government to fulfil a deadline that causes serious legal and/or financial fallout if you don't?
