Google is making money out of a technology Oracle sees as their own (the Java language and some of the standard library API) and feel they should be getting a cut. If they succeed, then they will have a pretty big interest in the smartphone business (one they've been losing as JavaME loses popularity).

Sun/Oracle used to make millions from Java ME license fees. Now they don't, partly because of Android.
