Very informative article, well done.
I noticed from the article little information to what kernel started using this new NMI implementation. The article mentions July 2010 when a specific discussion started, but little information to when the solution was implemented and shipped as part of a kernel.
Is this 3.3 material, or have we been using this for many months already ? :-)

It went in in 3.3. Look for the secret links in the article (hint, they have the word "solution" in the phrase).
