Parent article: PHP 5.4.0 released
Last year I discovered that it is much easier to isolate multiple virtual hosts from each other and from the web server with PHP than with Python or Perl. This comes from fast and reliable support for FastCGI that allows to run PHP code that was not created with FastCGI in mind in the first place. So with PHP I can run single lighttpd to serve static pages for all virtual hosts yet in the same time I can run PHP code on per-virtual host user accounts without performance loss.
With Python or Perl running a typical application over FastCGI requires either often significant tweaks or just switching to the standard CGI with corresponding performance loss.
So it is nice to see "Improved CGI/FastCGI SAPI" in the change log for PHP 5.4.0.
