The problem with PHP, for me, is that it copied Perl, copied it badly and is now in a perpetual process of catching up with fixes Perl has had for years. Just use Perl with an appropriate web-friendly framework and you get all the nice things about PHP without any of the nastiness of actually using PHP.

Yeah but then you get all the nastiness of using Perl! ;-)

(I grew up on Perl. Switched to PHP, then to Ruby. When I went back to Perl for a while it was nearly unbearable.)
