As for handset manufacturers, I'm not sure their customers are chasing them down asking for "Ubuntu" or any sort of "Linux Desktop". We know where that route leads ...Sad but I think you have a good point. I personally would like to have my Fedora, and Ubuntu fans probably do not like a crippled version either. The only customers who would be satisfied with the locked down OS are those you mention here.
