Three new stable kernel updates

Posted Jan 27, 2012 23:33 UTC (Fri) by mjt (guest, #1515) [Link]

Note that updates for 3.0 and 3.2 contains 2 security fixes, one is rather nasty root hole with wrong /proc/pid/mem permission handling (CVE-2012-0056) and another is privilege escalation from partition to whole device using SG_IO ioctl (CVE-2011-4127). The fix from the latter may add some noize to dmesg like "foo sending ioctl XXX to a partition!" - till a list of valid ioctls is refined. A fix for the latter has been posted for 2.6.32 series as well, and the former does not affect 2.6.32.
