Is the HPTE thing a P4 thing, a PIII thing, a i845 thing, what? What has HPTE? Just wondering.

HPET (not HPTE) is an Intel-developed standard, but it's supported by both AMD and Intel. Typically, the HPET lives in the northbridge. I think most modern northbridges have them.
