The question there is why anyone bothered to add IPv6 support to telnetd.

One could run a public sshd just as well. No one should snoop on me dungeon crawling.
Regarding the graph, plotting the relation between ssh and telnetd would be nice. I spot-checked the year 2007, which for some reason saw the doubling of the telnetd numbers. sshd installations increased by a much higher factor.
