Thanks for the pointer to the Rob Pike entry. I will say I have heard many of the same complaints he lists since very old days.. the issue is that there are now a lot more noise producers AND a lot easier for their noise to propogate.

There used to be plenty to read, with Byte and Dr. Dobbs lying around, but today, once you're all caught up on LWN and "The H", you're down to either blog rants or the all-caps captions on cat pictures.
