It not only survives in the face of PHP, but also in the face of just getting crappier and crappier....
Seriously, I know it sounds trollish, but I have yet to meet one user that likes how the facebook ui has changed over the past year or so....
A lot of people I know have pretty much just given up trying to figure out the randomly changing interface, and put their accounts on life support... although they still get more heartbeats than google+...

Oh noes, I just realised I screwed up.. you must have been talking about how that unstoppable force that will stand the test of time - friendster - solved all its performance issues with PHP.. there's no way that it would crumble, and let some other bundle of PHP crappiness take it's overly-hyped, bored self-important, SF VC wank-inspiring, social-networking crown. ;)
(yeah, it's bash on social networking day for me..)
