The web interface to our product is written in PHP, so I work with it every day. I really hate PHP. I agree with the parent's statement People have been writing working applications in spite of PHP, not because of it. On the other hand, PHP is really easy to deploy (everybody packages mod_php) and the documentation is pretty good providing you ignore all the dumb advice from programmer-wannabees in the comments on the PHP manual.
