OK, I read it all and I seem to have missed the most important information.
How are they going to proceed with Gnome2? It is unmaintained. Are they going to switch to Mate or are they taking updates from some other big distro? They have to do something, right? Just shipping it without any security or bug updates is no way make a distro.

GNOME2 isn't completely unmaintained, RedHat supports a branch in RHEL 6.
