Oracle has announced the
release of Oracle Solaris 11. "Oracle Solaris 11 is designed to meet
the security, performance and scalability requirements of cloud-based
deployments allowing customers to run their most demanding enterprise
applications in private, hybrid, or public clouds." See the release

With all due respect, why is Oracle Soralis 11 in the LWN Distributions page?.
It's neither free nor Linux. Just like HP/UX or AiX.

Free: AFAIK, source code for Solaris 11 has been made available, so it's almost in the same position as Android in terms of development style. They push out the binaries and then make available the source code under CDDL (and other) terms.
Linux: Well, right, it's not Linux. But still interesting to know. Given that the same is done for other non-Linux things (such as Minix), that doesn't seem a reason to not do it.
