Maemo in particular delivered pretty much everything that was asked of it (not least of which was a thriving developer community) before being scuppered by short-sighted management decisions.

Maemo shipped and was useful, true, which puts it ahead of the others. But it never saw any uptake. It was a failure in the market. :(
