Didn't the kernel developers agreed to lower the bar for features that are generally accepted outside mainline (e.g. Wakelocks, https://lwn.net/Articles/464298/)?

If you look at all of the xen based hosting providers, their customers and the associated users of those web sites you have many millions of people right there.
With that said, I personally perefer using and administrating kvm...
