Besides sending announcements to mailing lists and whatnot (IRC channel, maybe?), the important issue IMHO is (partial) continuous build, e.g. building documentation, and e.g. RPMs on push.
I wonder if it would be possible to have this back, securely...

If you want something like this, do it on your own servers, not on the kernel.org servers, sorry. We will work on mail integration for git hooks, but that is going to be it.
If you strongly object to this, let me know, through email, and we can discuss it there.
