I actually prefer the GPLv2 to GPLv3, and I'm not fan of the way various people connected to the FSF have tried to force GPLv3 down people's throat, but I still wish that people would release their GCC plugins under GPLv3. That way, those plugins can be brushed up and bundled with GCC, significantly extending their reach. From the sound of it, some of these plugins would definitely be useful outside of the kernel.

as i've just posted in a comment below, the licensing of plugins for use with the kernel is somewhat complex (but IANAL so maybe i'm overreacting ;). i'm personally open to relicensing my code to GPLv3 if someone really wants to use them outside of the kernel (even if the only one i can think of that'd be useful in userland is already GPLv2+).
