Papering over a binary blob

Jon - thanks for telling it like it is. Why is good sense so lacking in otherwise honourable and well-meaning people? I know RMS likes to say that you need to restrict freedom to enable freedom (hence GPL and not BSD/MIT or public domain). But this is almost a reductio ad absurdum of that philosophy.
