I left Gentoo for openSUSE a bit over three years ago. There were a lot of factors, but mostly it was the collapse of the LiveCD projects and the difficulty of using Catalyst. I'm still on openSUSE, mostly because of YaST, Open Build Service and SUSE Studio. But it seems like darn near every other "cloud computing" initiative out there is based on Ubuntu, usually LTS.

The handwriting is on the wall - I really don't want to have to master *two* distros' system administration toolsets, and I don't think the devops tools are there yet to make for "seamless" translation. So I'm likely to migrate to Ubuntu when the Debian Live Project fully supports Ubuntu and GNOME 3 is available there.

P.S.: Another reason to move to Ubuntu is that nearly all of the audio / digital media specialized distros are Ubuntu-based.

Perhaps because the needed CODECs are patent-encumbered, and thus illegal for distribution/use in the US?
