Release for CentOS-5.7 i386 and x86_64

It's good to see this release, my servers use CentOS. I am increasingly concerned over the delays in releasing various updates to the distro and see these as basically management issues. Much more is needed than technical expertise among the devs, good though these are. They are necessary but not sufficient contributions. It has been about two years since CentOS stopped taking financial donations. As of today the wiki, in the section about making contributions, says, "We don't take monetary donations.."

I remember that there was some fuss over the bank account being in the hands of a (former?) team member and it seems that this caused the end of the financial donation option. I don't care about the details, some mess no doubt.

I raised my concerns on the CentOS list to no avail. Maybe the devs just don't want to go there. But others could. A mechanism for accepting donations to, for example, pay someone good to work on CentOS doesn't seem very hard to do and I can't see any reason why it couldn't be a real contribution.

I've seen many examples where a startup project got a substantial amount of money in a relatively short time to get coding under way. If the developers don't want to do this themselves I see no reason why others wouldn't.

Is there any appetite for this?

Dave
