I would have thought Google should support B2G rather than 'protect' ChromeOS - the biggest risk to ChromeOS is that the market doesn't get behind the 'web browser is your desktop' model, so anything that promotes a similar model would help reduce the risk to Google.
As for removing version numbers, I just hope someone can stop Asa Dotzler from coming up with yet more comments or 'great ideas' that annoy almost everyone.
