But I wonder, what's the difference between compcache and zcache then? Is it only that zcache uses tmem? Are they the same?

Compcache was only for swap pages (doesn't handle clean pagecache pages) and required a swap "device" of a fixed size to be pre-configured. So essentially zcache is the next step in the evolution of compcache, using the tmem interface.
