OLPC's software stack went so far into the weeds that I'm not sure much will be salvageable.

Is it realistic to consider Bitfrost for general use?

The OLPC sandboxing software, "rainbow", runs fine on Debian, though it is not widely known or used. http://sandboxing.org has more details, along with links to several known alternatives.
