Bob Young on Lulu and collaborative innovation (Opensource.com)
Opensource.com has an interview with Red Hat co-founder Bob Young (now founder and CEO of Lulu) in two parts (1, 2). In it, he discusses collaboration and how it is actually a natural part of our society; the same is true in many industries. From part 1: "The reason you can walk down the street and not be mugged is because we default to thinking if we were robbed, the police would put the robber in jail. But the reason we can walk down the street and not worry for our safety is not that there's a policeman on every corner--there isn't. It's because it's in my interest to enable you to walk down the street safely, and it's in your interest to make sure I can walk down the street safely. So if somebody tries to mug you, the real problem is the other people on the street. You have terrible stories where people stood around watching, but those are the exceptions.
