I wonder what kind of spam it is that has been eliminated. It must be some particular kind. I too am no where near being able to live without filtering. Last month it was about 350 a day, compared to 500-600 last year. But the amount that I have to filter seems to have gone up in that time; from around 60 a day to 80. The legitimate emails are at most 10 a day. Like Jon, I distribute my unobfuscated email address widely. Not as widely as Jon, though. One thing I've noticed is the mail to guessed email addresses on my mail server has stopped. (But the counts above are just for mail addressed to me).

Just as another data point, it looks like my spam volume has gone from 1000+/day to less than 300/day over the past two years. Very interesting, and surprising that I had not noticed until now.
Of course, a spam message just made it through my filters as I was typing this... :-)
