Kevin Ottens' talk at Akademy 2010 provides more information this modularisation and why they're doing it (desktop/mobile/tablet, clean up dependencies etc): This is excellent work and shows the maturity of the project. It will provide a solid foundation for building future user environments regardless of the platform or form factor. Nice.
