The thing with Skype is that it has decentralised routing but *very* centralised naming. I wonder how they plan to do naming with GNU Free Call, I guess it will be federated email/xmmp style user@domain, but something more distributed would be interesting. The work done by the Serval BatPhone project in this area is interesting. I hope both projects learn from each other.

bitcoin actually proves that decentralized and reliable identity is possible (by chaining proof-of-work). it would be most interesting to apply concepts from there to identity in true p2p real-time communication networks (SIP based or not).
