Adobe has
announced
that it will no longer be producing versions of Adobe AIR - or security
updates - for desktop Linux; instead, they see Android as the future. Some
more information can be found in
this
blog entry: "
So, with Desktop Linux, we see a basically flat
growth curve hovering around 1%. And since the release of AIR, we've seen
only a 0.5% download share for desktop Linux. For Android and IOS we see
substantial growth in share, and see predictions that indicate that in the
Mobile OS market, the Android share could be 46%, with iOS at 16% (IDC
March 2011)."

Ars technica
reports
on the US Supreme Court's ruling in the i4i case. "
In a New York
Times op-ed supporting Microsoft, UCLA law professor Doug Lichtman had
argued that changing the standard of proof would 'give relief to the
countless businesses that today find themselves vulnerable to patents that
shouldn't have been issued in the first place.' A wide variety of companies
and public interest groups, including Google, Red Hat, Walmart, the
Electronic Frontier Foundation, and the Apache Software Foundation, filed
briefs echoing that point. But the Supreme Court decided that whatever the
merits of these policy arguments, they couldn't overrule the text of the
patent law and the courts' long history of employing the higher
standard."

ITwire
reports
that the well-known Linux conference linux.conf.au finally owns the domain
name. "
"So I'm very pleased to announce that, from this point
onwards, the linux.conf.au domain will be available all year round, rather
than the somewhat traditional six monthly on/off cycle that many conference
regulars have become familiar with," wrote [Linux Australia president John]
Ferlito."

TechRadar
covers
a Linux Format Magazine interview with Richard Stallman.
"
In fact, when the open source philosophy spreads a lot - which it has - it tends to close people's minds to the ideas of free software. It even tends to cover up our existence. Most of the articles that talk about the GNU system, they don't call it the GNU system and they don't call it free software. They describe it as open source, and they give the impression that we - its developers - agree with the open source ideas that the readers have heard of already, and would never guess at what we're really standing for."
