The thing I like the most about this is the test and validation work - if this can improve the quality of Linux on ARM, it may catch cross-platform issues such as KMS regressions (compared to pre-KMS), making X actually work reliably again, and power management regressions (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=li...)

We have a validation tools team at Linaro working on the infrastructure to do automated testing. We currently do daily automated testing and benchmarking on several of the boards we support, with more boards on the way over the coming weeks and months.
