Does this run on Wetab? Or does the situation resemble Android, where the software is released to hardware partners which may or may not release modified software for their tablets?

The software is all open, and fully available. Whether it runs on any given hardware depends on whether the hardware adaptation for that hardware is possible (i.e. if there are available graphics/network/other drivers).
This does, at least partially, depend on hardware vendors providing support, but not exclusively.

Yes, it runs very well on the WeTab/ExoPC. Obviously you have to install it yourself, but this device is more or less the primary target of the pinetrail tablet images.

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know. That means they might work well in the future as well, I am sick and tired of driver issues with the other major tablet platform. I might treat myself to one then, as they've dropped in price considerably.
