Being on the board is not about changing fedora. People running for
election in order to change "How Fedora is done" are often up for
disappointment. For the most part the Board's job is to listen when people
disagree and see if we can get people to start listening and not shout past
each other. It doesn't always work but that is how things go.

Which brings me to the Fedora/Linux tie in here. Every few months I see a
sad tale of someone who tried the Fedora {mailing lists|forum|irc channel}
and had a bad first impression, which leads to a "I am never going to use
{Linux|Fedora} again!". Please take a few moments to think logically and
not judge an entire Linux distribution or Operating system based on one
forum post, email or 5 minutes in an IRC channel. Do some research, work on
explaining your problem better or in a different way, try a different
support channel, or at the very least note that your impression is based on
only one single drive by. It's hard to overcome a bad first impression, but
do consider giving more than a single chance.

Re first impressions ... this is exactly why it's so important to maintain high community standards *all the time*. Every time someone acts like a jerk, even if current members know it's not norm, new potential members get scared away.

Sure, just like we should always ship bug free software and have mailing lists that never have flames. :)
I agree we should strive for this, but I am just asking people to give a bit of slack before deciding never ever to use something again. :)

The problem is one of where action can be taken. We can do something about improving our own communities; it's much harder to change the opinions of the rest of the world.

Kevin Fenzi seems to imply that posters of reviews of distribution should do actual work. This is wrong on some many levels.

He wasn't taking about a distribution review. He was responding to a blog post from the lead Bodhi lead developer claiming that he won't use the distribution because a few people had a problem with him in the irc channel once.

He was annoyed at instead of answering a question he had on how to do something, he got told he was doing it wrong and not to do it that way.

I think its a shame that you can't reach through the internet and *punch* people in the face. Discussion boards and IRC chat wouldn't need a warning like this:
"Sorry, Internet Communities are full of dick heads. It is best not to draw attention to yourself or you will become the next victim."
