Yes, this one's a killer. By default, the cannon is loaded and pointed at your foot; you need to know about this limitation before you set up your database otherwise ibdata1 just becomes an unstoppable creeping horror that threatens to devour the world.

I think it is useful to treat the innodb tablespace as a thin-provisioned filesystem without TRIM support. it is required to monitor the innodb free space from show table status just like any other filesystem.
