They should have called it "blackberry problem". In Oregon and Washington, the usual remark on visiting somebody's property is, "Ah, I see you have a blackberry problem." The presence of blackberry canes of any variety or extent indicates, prima facie, a problem. Every landowner has the problem, to some degree, so there's no stigma attached, but it's an easy basis for commiseration. Eradicating a runaway blackberry infestation is technically possible, but never actually achieved by anybody you know.
